Dr. Enyoung Park and Dr. Terry Lin offer in-office dental implant placement at ParkLin Dental in Katonah. You can close the gaps in your smile and feel and look your very best.

Millions lost, millions restored

Each year, millions of Americans lose at least one tooth to gum disease, accident, cancer therapy or extensive decay. On the upside, about three million people annually in the United States undergo tooth replacement procedures involving dental implants, says the American Academy of Implant Dentistry.

What's special about dental implants? Why choose these prosthetics over traditional bridgework or conventional dentures? The answer is simple: dental implants are lifelike. They look like real teeth. They have roots. They keep gum tissue and bone healthy just as natural teeth do.

Dental implants have three distinct parts: a titanium implant screw (which the dentist inserts into the jaw), an abutment, or extension post, and a porcelain crown. The titanium in the implant itself is key to dental implant success because human bone bonds exceptionally well to titanium.

This bonding process is called osseointegration, and while it takes time to complete, the result is an artificial tooth that is just as strong and functional as a natural tooth. Also, your dentist may use implants to support bridgework or full dentures, eliminating the denture slippage and reduced jaw bone density resulting from extensive tooth loss.

The implant procedure

Come to ParkLin Dental for a personal dental implant consultation. You'll meet with Dr. Park or Dr. Lin for a complete oral examination, including X-rays, to confirm your oral health is good and that you have sufficient bone in your jaw to support dental implants. Also, you'll discuss your smile goals and learn all about the implant process.

With a care plan in place, the treatment can proceed. Most implant surgeries require simple local anesthetic. The dentist numbs the area around the empty socket and places the screw-like titanium device. The gums are sutured closed, and healing begins.

After a period of healing and osseointegration, you'll return to ParkLin Dental where your dentist will re-open the implant site. Then, the doctor bonds on the abutment post and porcelain crown. That's it. That gap is gone.

In the long run...

Your dental implant can last the rest of your life. Just brush and floss as you normally would, and get routine exams and cleanings every six months.
